There’s been a word that Sony A7III could come in 2017. According to the latest reports, it will be announced as soon as today! The A7II replacement will feature some of the A9’s specs, such as the sensor, the body, and the battery. What’s more, it could also feature the A9’s autofocus system. Other than these, website Mirrorless Rumors has revealed a few more specs we can expect. Some people are born with more money than sense. Other people know this and create apps, websites and apparently Instagram accounts which take advantage of this fact. Way back in 2008, an app appeared for iOS called I Am Rich which allowed people to pay $999 through the App Store and all it did was come up with a message declaring that you were rich. Canon’s RF 600mm f/11 IS STM lens is tiny. At least, it is when you compare it to the typical 600mm lenses that wildlife and sports shooters use. It’s also super lightweight, coming in at around 2lb (930g) and costs a mere $699. Sure, its f/11 max aperture is hitting “diffraction territory” but for social media, it’s plenty good enough. We knew it wouldn’t be long before Canon finally started switching their cinema cameras over to the RF mount and they’ve finally done it. Today, Canon has announced the new Canon EOS C70 Super 35mm cinema camera. They say it’s in a “mirrorless-style body” although it actually looks a lot more like a big ol’ chunky DSLR than it does a little mirrorless camera. It’s a pretty hefty little beast that offers Dual Gain Output (DGO) claiming an impressive 16+ stops of high dynamic range....

People will do some crazy things in order to get the shot, especially automotive photographers and filmmakers. But this one really takes the prize. For a chase scene of Chris Hemsworth’s new movie, Extraction, director Sam Hargrave actually strapped himself to the hood of a car to hold the camera and film the chase scene. And that’s not the only crazy filming technique used to create this scene, either. Netflix posted a behind the scenes look to Facebook of how the chase scene was filmed, along with the final edited result of what the camera saw, and boy does it look good!...

Project Dragonfly, designed by a team from Yale University and the University of Toronto in 2013 is an attempt to capture the darkest parts of the sky that are so faint that they’ve managed to escape the gaze of more conventional telescopes – even the really huge ones. The design was built using an array of 3 Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM II lenses to begin with in what they called the Dragonfly Telephoto Array....

The European Space Agency (ESA) plans to take photos of a comet that is just starting its journey into the inner Solar System. In the upcoming mission, three spacecraft will photograph the comet from different perspectives, and hopefully, help ESA to spot material from the very dawn of our Solar System. The “Comet Interceptor” has been selected as ESA’s new fast-class or F-class mission in its Cosmic Vision Program. The “fast” refers to the implementation time, as it will take about eight years between selection and being ready for launch....

Godox has announced the Godox AK-R21 Projection Attachment. It’s compatible with Godox lights that have a round head, like the Godox V1 speedlight, Godox AD100Pro and the H200R round flash head for the Godox AD200Pro. It’s also somewhat compatible with Godox’s regular-shaped speedlights when used with the AK-R25 square-to-round head adapter. It’s essentially designed to turn your flash into a projector – in a similar fashion to products like the Light Blaster – letting you create different lighting effects with your Godox lights using various slides....

We’ve heard a lot over the last few years about digital film and backs for 35mm cameras. But one thing I haven’t really seen mentioned is “instant film” backs. You know, for things like Polaroid or Fuji Instax. Well, the folks at NINM Lab have had it in the forefront of their minds. They’ve developed a back that fits a number of 35mm SLR and rangefinder cameras. And it’s compatible with Fuji Instax Instant Film....

Godox seems to be testing the waters with a number of new product lines lately, outside of their usual lighting systems. Today’s it’s the turn of the Godox GM6S 5.5″ on-camera field monitor. It supports input resolutions up to 4K, has a 5.5″ touchscreen display that offers a brightness of up to 1200 bits. Information first started coming out about the monitor a couple of weeks ago but they’re now available to pre-order....

It’s been nearly 10 years since I first visited the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. It was a great experience for me. I could finally see the place I’d previously only known from books and TV and the tart taste of the Lugol’s iodine I had to drink a few days after the disaster. After many visits to the plant, I was finally even allowed to enter the damaged Reactor 4 and see the notorious control room....

Well, when I say “swim”, it kind of bobs around under the surface before coming back up to take off. Drones that can take off from and land in water aren’t a new idea. We’ve seen it before with the original Lily Drone, although that one never saw reality. The SPRY drone, on the other hand, appears to be very real. And it seems to have no problems with taking off from the water, landing in it, or even dipping below the surface....

Shooting in manual isn’t some magic bullet that will make all your shots perfect, no matter what some photographers might want you to believe. But there are things you need to understand in order to be able to use it effectively. Those three things are ISO, aperture and shutter speed. I love good composite work. Even though it’s a different art form from photography, it’s strongly connected to it and it lets your imagination go wild. Ted Chin (previously) creates some of the trippiest composites I’ve seen, and he has kindly shared his latest work with us. His images show animals in environments where only imagination can put them, making his work look as if it comes straight from the dream world....

Camera gear talk is always quite interesting and often pretty amusing. So many are loyal to their brand, not that I’m pointing any fingers, and just can’t seem to look at things objectively. And while most brands these days have got things pretty good when it comes to stills, the sub-$5,000 camera market for video shooters is still a bit all over the place. Relatively speaking, though, it’s a pretty young sector of the market and everybody’s still trying to figure things out....
